Kathy Smith is a household name for so many Americans. She was a pioneer in the world of health and fitness and despite some tragic moments early on in her life, they became a catalyst for change, leading to some amazing achievements which paved the road for her to become a world famous fitness personality, particularly for her workout videos of the 1980’s and 1990’s.

In this video, some highlights from a much, much, longer interview from my “The Real Skinny on Fat” series which I was so honored to have her participate in, Kathy talks about the importance of everyone approaching a workout based on their circumstances and situation and recognizing that, as she states in the video “a workout routine for an Olympian is not going to apply to someone who’s just got off the couch”. In particular, she emphasizes the importance of walking and high intensity interval training, or HIIT. Kathy talks briefly about the incredible benefits of daily walking can have for weight loss and health, and how simply adjusting the speed at which we walk, the way we walk, and changing intensity at intervals can have a dramatic effect on our bodies and how it helps us lose weight all over and tone us at the same time. Of course, these are only highlights and the topic is only the tip of the iceberg, but it’s a fascinating look into what she’s learned over her long and successful career.
