Happy Monday everyone! It’s day one of my water fast, and I am feeling really good. So far I have only experienced a mini headache, but all in all, it’s been a great day. I have been nourishing myself with warm water and some vitamin D by sitting outside in the sunshine (one of the perks of living in Florida ?). The topic of fasting is woven throughout my docuseries, The Real Skinny on Fat, and many of you have been intrigued by its benefits and are considering adding this transformational health tool into your lifestyle, and some of you are even experienced block fasters. Whichever group you may fall into, there are undoubtedly a lot of questions that come up about the topic of fasting. Below are the top five questions I receive about extended water fasting, and I’d like to share them with you:

What Can I Have?

      • During the five day water fast, it’s recommended that you consume only filtered or spring water for five days. Adding a pinch of Himalayan pink salt or Celtic sea salt is helpful, as it provides trace minerals and can ease detox symptoms that come up during the fast.

Can I Exercise During The Fast?

      • I like to do light exercise that activates my lymphatic system, however, the overall recommendation is to stop an exercise regimen during fasting days; athletes can resume day five

What Can I Expect Over The 5 Days

      • 1) Each experience is different and if your fast feels different than the expectations provided don’t be alarmed. The most important way to care for yourself during a fast is to rest and stay well-hydrated. If you feel at any point that something just doesn’t seem right, trust your body and don’t hesitate to contact your doctor, especially if you are being followed for a health condition such as blood pressure or blood sugar for example. You may need to adjust a small component so that the fast feels better for you or doesn’t put you at risk for harming yourself. A fast is a very big venture to embark on so take some time as you begin to get still and start the journey of listening to your body and tuning in to its needs!
        2) Specifically, Day 1-3 glucose drops, brain fog and low energy
        3) Specifically, Day 4-5 raising up stem cells, loss of hunger, more energy

How Do I Break My Fast

      • Day 1 – 500 calories avg woman, 800 kcal avg man, soft foods (avocados, berries, steamed veggies), bone broth, no meat/eggs, dairy
Day 2 – 800 calories avg woman, 1000 kcal avg man, same diet as day one and add eggs, continue with no raw food and no meat
Day 3 – regular calories, add back meat and dairy

How Often Should I Block Fast?

      • I like to complete a water fast 6 times a year but overall two to three times per year is a good starting point

Join me tomorrow for a day two update, and if you are on this fasting journey with me please share your personal experience, tips, and be sure to ask any questions you may have, I will be checking in and answering them!
