If only all my days started like this… Drinking coffee with a friend on a beautiful sunny day, and learning fascinating health tips from the best, on a subject I am endlessly drawn to.
Meet Professor Christiaan Leeuwenburgh, Ph.D. Christiaan is an old friend and someone I admire greatly, and I’m proud to add him to my list of interviews on the fascinating subject of autophagy. For those of you who are new to this subject, or new to the channel, or both, I will let Dr. Christiaan talk about what autophagy means but I will tell you that it is mind-blowing, and I would also encourage you to go back after watching this and view our other two in-depth interviews from the world’s leading authorities on the subject: Dr. William Dunn, and his longtime colleague, famed Japanese scientist, Dr. Yoshinori Ohsumi.
Dr. Ohsumi had the honor of receiving the Nobel Prize in 2016 for his research into autophagy, such is the fascination around this subject, which might well be one of the biggest health breakthroughs in recent times with benefits that the experts will discuss. Although if you feel inspired to learn more, I wrote my first book on the subject, Glow15, which went on to become a NY Times bestseller, that was inspired by my own personal research and experience and by Dr. Ohsumi, with whom I had the pleasure of visiting in Tokyo and hold in the highest regard.
Professor Christiaan, (who is practically my neighbor in Gainesville) was kind enough to invite me for coffee in his garden on a beautiful morning and was gracious enough to impart some of his knowledge with the cameras rolling, and for that, I am extremely grateful, but not at all surprised. As Director of UF’s Biochemistry of Aging Laboratory, Christiaan has a wealth of knowledge and a desire and commitment to share it with as many as possible, and I’m thrilled to bring this to you through my channel which was created for exactly this purpose — sharing knowledge and inspiring you to lead a happier, and healthier life.
